🎧 Welcome to Today’s Episode!
Hello, and welcome to another episode on the Joyful Alchemist podcast.
Today, we’re diving deep into a topic that is often discussed but not always fully understood—Tithing. But not just tithing as in giving money to the church—we’re talking about the Trinity of Tithing, a concept rooted in giving not just from our treasure, but also from our time and talent.
Many of us were taught that tithing simply means giving 10% of our income to the church. While this financial contribution is essential, it's only one-third of the equation. True biblical tithing encompasses more than money—it calls us to invest in God’s Kingdom through three areas of our lives.
📖 What is Tithing?
Tithing, at its core, is a biblical principle of giving back to God what already belongs to Him. The foundation for this is found in Malachi 3:10 (KJV):
"Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it."
But what if the "storehouse" isn't just about finances? What if God is calling us to give from more than just our wallets? That’s where the Trinity of Tithing comes in.
🔹 The First Tithe: Our Treasure (Material Giving)
This is the most well-known aspect of tithing—giving 10% of our income. The biblical foundation for this practice is found in Genesis 14:20, where Abraham gave a tenth of everything to Melchizedek.
💰 Why is Treasure Important?
It teaches obedience to God.
It shifts our trust from material wealth to divine provision.
It supports the work of the church and ministry.
It opens the doors for God’s supernatural blessing (Luke 6:38).
But treasure alone is not enough. If we think that tithing only means writing a check, we are missing the bigger picture.
🔹 The Second Tithe: Our Time (Serving Others)
We are all given the same amount of time—24 hours a day, 168 hours a week. How much of that time do we dedicate to God’s work?
⏳ Ways to Tithe Your Time:
Prayer & Worship – Spending time in communion with God (1 Thessalonians 5:17).
Serving the Church – Volunteering in ministries, whether as an usher, teacher, or behind the scenes (Galatians 5: 13).
Helping Others – Visiting the sick, feeding the hungry, mentoring younger believers (James 1:27).
Rest in God – Even honoring the Sabbath and setting aside time to reflect on Him is a tithe of our time (Exodus 20:8).
Giving time is sometimes harder than giving money—but it’s just as crucial.
🔹 The Third Tithe: Our Talent (Using Our Gifts for God’s Glory)
God has given each of us unique skills and talents to use for His kingdom (1 Peter 4:10).
🎨 Examples of Tithing Your Talent:
If you are a musician, play for worship.
If you are a teacher, teach Bible studies.
If you are a writer, use your words to share God’s message.
If you are in business, mentor others in financial stewardship.
No gift is too small or insignificant when placed in God’s hands.
🌿 The Power of the Full Tithe
When we give from all three—our treasure, time, and talent—we step into a fullness of blessing that few experience.
🔥 When we tithe our treasure, God blesses our finances.
🔥 When we tithe our time, God multiplies our days.
🔥 When we tithe our talent, God increases our influence.
The key is balance. If we only give money but never our time, we are missing part of God’s plan. If we give our time but never invest financially, we neglect our duty to support God’s house. And if we withhold our talents, we are like the servant who buried his talents instead of multiplying them. (Matthew 25:14-30).
💡 Final Thoughts & Call to Action
So, where do you stand in the Trinity of Tithing?
1️⃣ Are you giving your treasure in faith?
2️⃣ Are you offering your time in service?
3️⃣ Are you using your talents for God’s glory?
If you’re only practicing one or two of these, consider expanding your tithing practice and watch how God moves in every area of your life.
📖 Malachi 3:10 promises that God will pour out blessings when we bring the full tithe. Are you ready to receive it?
